Binga baskets, holiday gift baskets, tonga baskets, baskets for walls, wall decor baskets, set wall baskets , african baskets, wall hangings, fruit baskets, storage baskets are made by a Zimbabwean tribe called Batonga in the Matebeleland region. We are working together with the elderly women of Tonga who find passion and pride in intricately weaving these multi purpose baskets which bring a unique aura to a room. These African decor of Binga baskets will connect you to a tribe that is rich in tradition and culture. Locally gathered materials including wild grass, small vines and palm leaves constitute the baskets. The largest sized bowls are still used by the Batonga people for their original purpose of ‘winnowing’ grains. Wind winnowing is an agricultural method developed by ancient cultures for separating grain from chaff. In its simplest form it involves throwing the mixture into the air so that the wind blows away the lighter chaff, while the heavier grains fall back down for recovery.
How to care for your treasured baskets
Avoid an area where there is direct sunlight , also avoid areas of moisture and areas of heat. Dust them with a soft cloth regularly.
It is a set of 5 baskets approximately 40 to 44cm each.
